Make Life Fun Again

encouragement Mar 31, 2022

I have a question for you. I want you to think back to when you were a kid. What was something that you did that was fun? Or silly? The kind of thing that made you giggle. Or just laugh out loud in sheer joy. Maybe it was playing hide and seek and getting a tickle fest with Mom or Dad when they caught you. Maybe it was rolling down a grassy, green field in the middle of summer, laughing the whole time. Or sliding down that GIANT hill in the winter with a giant smile even while you were screaming. Maybe it was swinging SO HIGH on the swing that you thought your feet would touch the sky. Do you remember what it was for you?

Now think back to when you were a teenager. What was something you did that was so much fun? It was so much fun that it can still make you smile when you think back on it now. Maybe it was going to the beach with a group of your friends and checking out the other boys and girls that were there. Or holding hands with that new boyfriend or girlfriend and thinking about what might be. Maybe it was jumping on your horse and riding like the wind (my personal fun memory!). Or standing in the rain. And then dancing in it just because it was fun. Maybe it was lying in the grass and staring at the stars and dreaming of all the world had to offer.

I have another question for you. When was the last time you did something that was just plain silly? Or was such fun that it made a memory for life? When was the last time that you really just let go and didn’t worry about what other people might think of you?

I have a little secret for you. Everything that you used to do when you were younger, the things that were so much fun? They still are. Well, most of them still are at any rate. I’m not sure I’d find it fun to stick a jelly bean in my ear today, but you know what I mean!

So, my encouragement for you today is to remember the things in life that are fun. That make you giggle or laugh out loud. The things that bring you warm memories. And pick one of those things and do it today. Or plan an adventure for the weekend. Something that is just plain fun. And when you think about that now, in this moment? Doesn’t that make you just smile? Yeah, me too.
