Facing Your Fears

Everyone is afraid sometimes. I’ve talked about fear before and I’ll talk about it again. Because fear is one of the biggest obstacles to success in life. Not only that it’s one of the biggest obstacles to joy, happiness, and fulfillment. To living our best life. Especially if we think that we’re the only ones that are afraid and we let that fear stop us from achieving true happiness.

And the truth is, we’re not the only ones that are afraid. There are many examples of well-known people who have had (or have) fears. From Warren Buffett and Mahatma Gandhi with their fear of public speaking to Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time who for years battled the fear of putting his head under water. Can you imagine?

What made the difference for these people is that they confronted their fears. They either worked through them or they simply went ahead in spite of them. They made a choice between fear controlling them or them controlling their fear. And because of that choice they achieved what they wanted to achieve. The good news is that you can choose, too!

Just remember that you don’t have to do it all at once. Baby steps are still forward motion. The beauty of baby steps is that you can easily see success and each success will bring you more confidence to take more steps. And each step you take will erase more and more fear.

Rewrite the story that you see in your mind by visualizing success. When you see in your mind someone who is a competent, successful and happy person, someone who has faced their fears and achieved all they dreamed of and that person you see is YOU? That, my friend allows you to take control of your story.

You also don’t have to do it alone. Community is important. Surround yourself with people who will push you. People who will encourage you to overcome fears that are holding you back. Those people can be friends or family, or it can be here with our community.

Instead of could have, should have, might have – face your fears. Focus your energy today on getting there. Understand too that you deserve success, and you deserve to live a happy life. Facing your fears will allow you to do that.

I believe in you. I believe that you have the strength to face your fears and overcome them. I believe that you deserve to live your best life. I hope that you believe it, too.
